Did he understand what he was doing? Did he have other things on his mind? Was he just young?

Not many answers yet but maybe one day - or not at all. It has been a long time and maybe he has forgotten or does not want to bring up the past.

You might gather there is information I am leaving out. Need to be vague for now but will elaborate when the time comes.

One thing is for sure - my dad is still around and I do have other family that I never knew I had. These are both good things and I look forward to speaking to them and learning about their lives and getting to know who they are.

What a day! We rented an SUV and even drove down to the San Diego Zoo (got totally drenched). The Zoo is amazing and massive! Much bigger than the Calgary Zoo. They have two great ways to see the Zoo. One is a double decker bus that goes up and down these crazy hills and the other is a tram ride that goes over the zoo.

We even had supper in San Diego, saw the Hollywood Walk of Fame (the stars in side walk). Aidan laid down on the grown next to the Dr. Seuss star. BTW he did not get the star for any books he got it for a movie (if you look at the star it has a movie camera on it).

Of course there was Disney Land and California Adventure. Those were the best times for sure.

I'd like to say that people in Cali DO know how to drive and their road system is really good. If you go take a GPS, they do help!

What are these guys doing?

It is the time of year when crazy people running around a small island on motorcycles again. The Isle of Man TT. Where or what is this? Here is where the Isle of Man is and here is the Isle of Man TT race is.

These guys are nuts! Thor is out on ThePirateBay.org?

Ok, so, I was looking at The Pirate Bay here and noticed some very interesting movies, that I will see in the theaters, like:

Thor
Your Highness
Transformers Dark of the Moon
Rio
Rango

Ok, so, I just saw Rio with the kids on the weekend (very good movie BTW) and I am now seeing a DVD RIP of Rio? No... don't think so.

There is a guy by the name of kepka that is posting these. Well, if you look REALLY close there is only 1 (one) file in the torrent and it is a RAR file. Not an XVID, DVD movie or MKV. Now, why in this age of really fast Internet would someone RAR a movie? Don't buy it people.... this guy has a virus or something in that RAR that will make your machine freak.

I have not downloaded it but I have a good feeling that it would not be good. So, stay clear of any movies posted from kepka.

Good night!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://shanebro.blogspot.com/2011/04/what-thor-is-out-on-thepiratebayorg.html' title='What? Jimmy Fallon had Paul Simon on with Stomp! Amazing... check out episode Episode 424. I remember seeing Paul Simon in Calgary back in 1988 or 1989 just after the Winter Olympics and he sang You Can Call Me Al twice. We had a mayor and his first name was Al and Paul had forgotten to put on his White Hat. So he put on this White Hat and sang You Can Call Me Al again with the hat on. At the time that was a very popular song and still a great favorite of mine.

Speaking of late night, I really think that some of these late night guys are done. Dave Letterman and Jay Leno are done. Refer to Jimmy Fallon. He was SINGING on stage with Paul Simon and Stomp was there as well doing there thing. This is a new wave of entertainment. Get involved with the guests and for me it makes watching these shows much more enjoyable. I used to watch Letterman all the time and still enjoy him and Leno. Both are big heavy hitters but Jimmy Fallon has really come on strong. Go Jimmy!

Looking for my dad!

And again, it has been too long. I've tried over the years to look for him but without success. I have a family of my own and I cannot imagine my own kids not knowing who I am.

Anyways, let me know if you know anything.

Thanks.

The passing of someone special

WARNING: The topic I am going to be discussing is death. The post I am writing is close to my heart and has just happened in the last 24 hours. It may go into topics or subjects that people may not feel comfortable with but I need to talk about this. I need to express my feelings to understand more than I do now. Continue at your own risk.

At 20:10 on December 24, 2010 my grandmother, Arlene Meldrum, passed away. She was 92.

This is the first time someone so close to me has died. It has been very hard for me. Not to take away the pain of her children or anyone else. She was special.

The right set of circumstances brought us together like no one else. She was trying to get out of a situation that she did not want to be in and my mom was doing her best as a single mom but needed more help. So in 1973 she moved in with my mom to help out with me. She lived with us until 1991.

Over the years I grew more selfish and did not want her in the house anymore. My thoughts go back to those days and I did not put myself in anyones shoes to see how they would feel. It was all about how I felt and what was best for me. I do apologize for that. The hope is we all grown and learn and understand what the right thing to do is. It has taken longer for me to grow but this has been a big grown time for me.

Some family members decided to see her to say goodbye. When we arrived at the lodge she was staying at I saw that she was not doing well. We found out from one of the daughters that had been there for almost 2 days what had happened. She was responsive on the 23rd, saying yes and no to what she wanted and did not want. However on the 24th she did not open her eyes in the morning and was having a very difficult time breathing. All but morphine was being given to her to help her breath easier and to help with any pain that she might have. Since her stroke in 1997 she had been in a wheel chair which was hard on her body. Looking at her now I could hardly see the woman that once was there as a surrogate parent.

In late November she had a urinary infection which went to her blood. This may have been a turning point in her health, as I do not think she totally recovered.

Being there with family members did make things easier. However seeing this small frame fight for each breath was difficult. With her eyes closed and no response to touch or spoken word was scary to see. We held her hand and stroked her farm to sooth her and to comfort us. When we held her hand she did not try to clench back. This was Grandma but her essence was no longer there.

While I was by her side watching her breath, thoughts of life, death, why things are the way they are went through my head. I was thinking so much about what is important. What is amazing is that the body was getting ready for death. Her legs were not as warm as they were and they started to turn to a different colour.

Tears came freely that night. Pain was in my whole being. I hate time. Time is something we cannot control nor turn back. My thoughts were not to go back in time to be with her again. The reality of the moment was on me. This was happening. Nothing could be done to stop what was going to happen. No one knew how long it would be. We stayed for a few hours and my mom decided to stay for however long it was going to be. An uncle and I started the drive back to Calgary.

Within 20 minutes I received a call that Grandma was gone. We turned around and started back to the lodge.

Today, 24 hours after, I still am sad, scared and wondering what is next. Life does not stop for everyone else in our community. People work, live and do what we have planned. But this is now the time after her death. This is a time that I thought would not come as soon as it did. Things like "time is fleeting" come to mind.

I do have one regret with her and I could have told her what I wanted to but never did. I do not want to do that again with anyone else. I hug my kids more, I tell them I love them more. Today I was not myself. Christmas still happened but being in the moment did not happen this year for me.

Today thoughts of Christmas of long ago came flashing back. Times that happened once were now again in my head. Warm thoughts of her and time we spent together. Looking back at some of those times make me see how I was. Some thoughts make me sad when I see how I was.

I cannot express what I need as I am not capable at this time to do so. In time the pain with ease and thoughts will be come more clear. A drive to see her is no longer possible. Each drive to see her was the same - to see a family member that was loved. That drive will never be the same again nor will it have the same meaning.

Where do we go after death? There are lots of ideas on this topic. I don't know what I believe. A selfish idea is that I will see her again after my death. Of course I would want that for anyone I have known. No one knows what really does happen. No one. Please believe what you believe.

Grandma, I love you so much. You influenced me more than you could have ever known. I hope that you are proud of me today. My duty from now on will to be a better person and live my life in a positive way. My feeling is that I have been trying to do that but need lessons in certain areas to help with the whole package. Please know that I will never forget you. My thoughts of you will live on in my thoughts and actions.

Rest easy as your life here is now done. Please take the time to do the things you were never able to do and experience. One small change may have made the difference in your life as it can in all of our lives. Do not be embarrassed about things that happened in your life or decisions you made. We all do things that we wish we could redo. That time has passed. Your life stands for itself now and you have nothing to worry about. I do not think less of you or feel different for the things I know.

You are and will forever be my Grandma.

Love always,

Shane

It Christmas Time!

Wow, Christmas again. The boys are amazing this year. Aidan, being 6, cannot WAIT for Santa! He keeps asking to open presents every DAY! And Elliott, wow, he saw Santa for the first time last Saturday and the look on his face was amazing. Kids just don't know anything and find it amazing! The first time for everything!

Aidan and Elliott are so cool when it comes to words. Aidan is the perfect grade one student. He tries so hard to pronounce new words that he has not seen before and adds letters or removes them depending on the word and if he thinks it is the word he reads.

Elliott is so cool the last couple of weeks. He has been saying so many words. I was getting him to say "awesome" <insert>. He says Gama, Oma and Opa. Daie (like daddy) and Aian. He is so cute. The two boys together are very good. Aidan tries to take things from Elliott or make him cry, but I think that is normal and only step in when I think Aidan is really not being nice.

There are a lot more topics I would like to talk about, however, I understand that even if I say something and then add "well this is what I think" or "this is my opinion" it still maybe taken wrong or other crap. Ohhhh, and there are things I could say in this post, which is public, that may hurt others by saying them. So, I will leave out the names, dates and locations of anything I may want to say - READ, I'll be vague.

FOR instance (ahah) I started with a new company and there is this guy (see how vague works?) that used to work for the same company I used to work for and the problems this one company we both worked for has had - in the past and I'm sure present. All the questioning I was making and thinking, was it REALLY me? Nah... not at all.

One thing I have figured working for people is that it is not about the employees, it is about the bottom line and how the company is put forward. The work done is not 100% what people look at. If someone does not like you - BOOM! there is the door. That has happened a few times I think with me. Ohhh well. I do what I think is correct and proper. I have noticed that some employers will ask questions that may put you in a bad light. For better or worse, trying to correct this may or may not work. Why? Points of view. Angle of attack. What your boss wants compared to what you think they want or need.

There are a few people that are straight shooters and that don't pull punches. Those people are hard to find. I think that unless you are looking, sometimes, it is too late to see that those are the ones you want around you.

There ya go! I need to keep up with posting stuff about the kids. Aidan and Elliott have so many moments of pure human nature and innocence that I want to capture them.

Later

Vacation...

Our vacation started August 1st. We left Calgary headed towards BC. Friday night we stopped in Golden and had a bit of a swim at the the hotel. They had a small water slide that Aidan and I went down. For some reason he is very scared of getting his head under water. We must fix this.

Saturday morning we had breakfast at the hotel and as Rae was going to pay for the hotel, Aidan fell and scraped his elbow in the parking lot.. Aidan was screaming. He and I put two band aids on him. The first one should have been put across his elbow not long ways. Ohh well.... Just an update, he took the band aids off himself tonight!

The rest of Saturday we drove to Kamloops. We arrived about 2:30pm local time and climbed a mountain (small hill but to Aidan it was a mountain!), went to the local beach and just got used to the city.

Sunday we went on a train ride, http://www.kamrail.com/, went to a really big pow-wow, http://www.kib.ca/powwow.htm and to a local music festival that was out side.

Our stay with Rae's friends has been great! They have an amazing view from their house and we are very glad we are here. Elliott has been awesome, Rae has had a good time too. Me I am just trying to stay sane.

Coolest thing - www.nin.com is updating their web page LIVE as the concert is happening. I won't be using it again. My computer life goes back to '82. I've used a lot of types of computers and what I use now are PCs with Windows. I have been using Winamp for close to 10 years. I am not using it anymore. The newest version 5.5 has a couple of hard features to swallow. One of the features, my wife does not like either, is the auto find all media and add it. If I wanted to do that I would have asked. But the wizard will not go away. You close Winamp down and open it back up - guess what, it asks again - all of your media are mine!

NO.

This is not good. As well, with the rest of the net: ads, ads, ads. My son will tell you that when you watch TV that you watch:

Commercial, commercial, commercial, commercial, commercial, commercial, tv show, commercial, commercial, commercial, commercial, commercial

Winamp, it has been a good relationship - others have come and gone (Sonique) was one that was cool (now it is own by Lycos and they killed the app and it is some shitty little media web site).

iTunes is now what I am going to use. But Shane, you say, iTunes has ads too!! Your right it does. I'm ok with that. Maybe what I am saying is that Winamp sold out - as everyone else has. Maybe it took too long. If they had ads 5 years ago maybe it would be a pill that would be easier to swallow.

I do also have a MAC mini and I will use iTunes there as well.

Hey, GOOGLE... where are you? You have this blog site, you have Gmail, there is some neat phone software (maybe hardware?), rumors about an OS... why not a media player? GUESS what, it could be web based. WE live in our web browsers as it is.

So, a couple of topics covered since June. More to come.

Giant Lighting

So I was watching this show on the Discovery Channel and saw this really neat story about lightning... check it out:

http://broadband.discoverychannel.ca/?vid=2637

Is Vista REALLY the the Devil?

SO, I HATE the IE7 setup page, what search provider are you going to have, is anti phishing on, blah, blah blah... I've been to a few in my past, like Sting, Bare Naked Ladies, Montly Crue (when I was MUCH younger), Gowan and the Philosopher Kings. This was one of the most intimate concerts I have ever been too.

Rae, my wife, her younger brother, CJ, was going with a bunch of his friends and called saying that he had a ticket. I went and man it was great. I've got some pictures with all of the band members and also bought their new CD Castles. I was very lucky to have all the band members to sign the CD and I gave it to Rae for a surprise.

The opening band was the Jon Levine Band. Jon is the keyboardist in the Philosopher Kings. As well as the drummer, Denton Whited and the new bassist Marc Rogers.

At any rate, I had a great time as did the friends I went with. I have to thank Fran and CJ for the pictures!!

Here are some pictures:

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5026801019418372130" style="DISPLAY: block; He just LOVES them. So, they usually end up in all sorts of places. One of the places I found one was in my shoe. I was playing floor hockey last night and saw it, again. This time, I was thinking, should I really remove it here and throw it away or should I keep it? Would I hurt his feelings, does he remember putting it in there or did it stuck to my sock? How would this action affect him 20 years from now?

So, I put it in the garbage.

Children Do

So, this caught my eye, good first post I think.

Shane...
